Why Trauma Healing Must Include the Body , and Why Talk Alone Isn’t Enough


Most people are surprised to learn that trauma doesn’t live only in memory , it also lives in the nervous system through patterns of tension, overwhelm, and disconnection.


Trauma can reshape the body and brain by:

  • Heightening the amygdala (fear response)

  • Weakening the prefrontal cortex (clarity + decision-making)

  • Disrupting speech + processing

  • Disconnecting people from physical sensation


This leads to chronic patterns like:

  • Feeling numb or shut down

  • Feeling stuck “on edge”

  • Overthinking

  • Anxiety that seems irrational

  • Emotional reactivity


You cannot think your way out of physiology.The nervous system must be retrained.



Why Talk Therapy Alone Often Isn’t Enough

  • Muscle tension

  • Fight/flight/freeze reflexes

Those reactions live in the body.
